My passion for aviation began in childhood, sparked by my father’s work for Ansett at Hobart Airport. My grandmother Shirley is also an avid enthusiast and spent many years working in security at Hobart Airport, so aviation was part of family life from an early age. Eventually my father moved to Hamilton Island for Ansett while I remained based in Hobart, and every chance I got I would travel to see him on Hamilton Island. I was probably the only kid who preferred my dad not to take leave when I visited, because that meant I could go to work with him and soak up everything about airport life.

As an adult my passion for aviation has only grown — I’ve travelled to many foreign locations and developed a strong love for aviation photography. More recently I’ve been trying something new with YouTube plane-spotting live streams; at this stage I have all the gear but feel like I’m just getting started. No doubt my videography skills will improve over time — until my most recent trip to Auckland in July 2026, I’d never taken my SLR off photo mode. My favourite aircraft types are the Airbus A350, A320/1 Neo (I’m a bit of an Airbus Fanboy..) and the mighty Boeing 767.

Excited to shift Skystar320 from Instagram to a YouTube Live plane-spotting channel and build a community of aviation enthusiasts. Please visit our YouTube page and like & subscribe.

As a young boy I wanted to be a pilot. That never eventuated, but I found the next best thing working for airlines. I spent time with Ansett, Qantas and Jetstar — from Ansett check-in duties at Hobart Airport to a Passenger Services Manager role at Hamilton Island, and later serving as Brisbane Duty Manager. I was Customer Services Manager for Jetstar at Hobart Airport. I happened to be on shift the day Ansett collapsed — a whole other story in itself. I stayed with Jetstar until my role was made redundant when the contract was handed to a ground handling agency. I love planes and travelling, and I also enjoy using a flight simulator in my spare time.

Love travel. I especially love Thailand, Hong Kong and New Zealand (only done the North Island so far). I’ve been lucky enough to enjoy Cathay business class on one occasion — a real treat — and the Hong Kong business lounges are truly next level. I adore the people, the food and the relaxed way of life in Thailand; Khao Lak is a particularly special favourite spot. I also love the bright lights and bustling energy of Hong Kong, and I felt an immediate connection to New Zealand when we visited. My Favourite planes are the A350 and 787, and I’m also quite fond of the A220.

I am looking forward to being part of Skystar320 with my son Greg, and look forward to putting together some interesting, informative and fun YouTube Live Plane Spotting Streams!
